Legends of people arriving by sea

Of all legends of trans-continental contact, one of the most enigmatic is that of the mythic, semi-divine culture hero who once walked among the peoples of the Americas. In Peru, he was Viracocha; in the deep regions of Brazil, El Dorado; in Central America, Kukulkan, or sometimes Bochica; in Mexico, Quetzalcoatl. This white, bearded teacher arrived by sea with a retinue that represented a major civilizing force. They had come from some unknown place and, after a short time, left America, sailing west to an unknown destination.
